There is a
common perception that a disc jockey is a person behind a booth
with a couple of turntables cranking out dance tunes that carry
the same beat or tempo, engaging in "scratching" and "sampling"
techniques and using all sorts of lights and effects to liven up
the dance floor. This style of DJ is who you will most likely
see at a night club where this kind of entertainment is quite
effective and very popular.
In comparison, a
mobile disc jockey provides entertainment to various private
affairs, using a variety of musical genres, and employing
learned and practiced skills in “crowd reading” and programming.
Today, mobile DJ's are considered more as entertainers and
emcees than our club counterparts. In many cases, they have a
more difficult job of keeping the dance floor active. This is
due mostly to the wide range of age groups and musical tastes at
most affairs. A talented mobile DJ doesn’t need “flash” to
provide enjoyable as well as quality entertainment.
